Abstract
Keywords: Students’ Reading Ability, Descriptive text, and Collaborative learning.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of collaborative
learning in improving students' reading ability in descriptive text. The research
method is quantitative method, pre-experiment with one group pre-test post-test
design. The population of this study was seventh grade students at MTS Mambaus
Sholihin Suci Gresik. The sample consisted of 35 students from class VII A as the
experimental class. The experimental class was taught using Collaborative
Learning strategy. The tools used in this study were essay queation tests for pre-test
and post-test. The data obtained were analysed using t test in SPSS 23 with a
significance level of 5% (0.05).
Based on the t test, a t value of 8.401 was obtained. The t table value with
df 34 at 5% significance level is 1.690 Therefore, t calculate > t table
(8.401>1.690) and the significance value is less than 0.05 (0.00 <0.05). Thus, the
null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
This means that there is a significant effect on the teaching of reading descriptive
text by using Collaborative Learning strategy in 7th A class of MTS Mambaus
Sholihin Suci Gresik 2023/2024.
