Abstract

Reading comprehension is a very important ability in learning at school and
outside of school. However, there are still many students who have difficulty
understanding texts, especially using English, due to limited vocabulary, lack of
motivation, and passive strategies. In this study, the researcher aims to test the
effectiveness of post-reading strategies in improving the understanding of grade XII
Ma students. Assa'idiyah tanggulrejo, with a focus on interactive processes such as
summarizing, synthesizing information, group discussions, and evaluation with
questions.
This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest
design, and involved 35 students as the population and 32 students as a sample.
Data were collected through pre-test, and post-treatment tests, then analyzed using
paired t tests and effect size.
The results showed that there was a significant improvement in students'
reading comprehension, which was shown by the average post-test score (82.50)
which was higher than the pre-test (62.50). Results Statistical test analysis using a
paired sample t-test with (p-value = 0.00 < 0.05), and effect size (Cohen's d = 1.82)
showed a large effect of this strategy on students' reading comprehension. The post�reading strategies used include summarizing activities, synthesizing information,
discussions, and answering evaluative questions. The results of this study support
the effectiveness of interactive approaches in reading learning and make a positive
contribution in developing students' critical thinking skills. This study recommends
the consistent application of post-reading strategies in teaching and learning
activities.
