Abstract

Keywords: Wordwall Application, Vocabulary Mastery

Vocabulary is one of the most important language components that must be taught students in the process of learning English as a foreign language. At school, students with low vocabulary will have difficulty understanding the material. They are less interested in learning English and be passive in class. So, in this technological era, English teachers can use interesting and interactive media in teaching vocabulary learning such as the wordwall application which helps the English learning process become more interactive and fun. The aim of this research is to find out whether students who are taught using the wordwall application can improve their vocabulary mastery in class X-I Man 1 Gresik.

This research uses a quantitative approach and uses a pre-experimental design. This population was taken from class X-I Man 1 Gresik. Samples were taken by researchers using sampling where researchers divided the population into just one pre-experimental group. The number of samples in this study was 30 students in class X-I. To collect data, researchers used pre-test and post-test. Then, to analyze it, researchers used the T test formula to determine the existence of significant differences between students who were taught using the wordwall application. Data analysis using SPSS version 23 showed that the pre-test average was 60.67 and the post-test increased to 85.67 after being given treatment. The average pre-test score is lower than the post-test (60.67<85.67) which means the null hypothesis can be rejected, and it can be concluded that the use of fun learning applications is effective in improving students' vocabulary skills. When compared with the significance level (0.05), the calculated t value is smaller than the t table (0.001<0.05), which means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.

The result can be concluded that there is a significant difference in student scores before and after implementing the wordwall application in vocabulary learning. Students experienced an increase before and after receiving treatment regarding the effectiveness of implementing the wordwall application on students' vocabulary mastery. Overall, it can be said that this learning app is very fun and suitable for use in improving students' vocabulary skills. In addition, teaching using this wordwall application is effective in students' vocabulary vocabulary in class X-I students at Man 1 Gresik.
