Abstract

Key Word: Speaking Skills, Communicative Language Teaching

This study aims to find out how much effect using the communicative language teaching method on students’ speaking skills. The research design used quantitative research with type of one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study taken from students’ of VIII A grade at Mts Tarbiyatul Aulad Gresik. The sample was 34 students’. In this study, researcher only focused on two variables, namely the CLT method as the independent variable (x) and speaking skills as the dependent variable (y). for measurement, researchers used the normality test, homogeneus test, and linier test. While testing the hypothesis, researcher used a paired sample test with the SPSS program.

The results of this study indicate that there is an effect of a CLT method on students’ speaking skills.The result of this study indicate that there is a significant effect of CLT method on students’ speaking skills of students VIII A grade at Mts Tarbiyatul Aulad Gresik. This is evidenced by the average pre-test result ( 47.15) and the average post-test result (78.53). and the value of sig was 0.001<0.005, and be concluded that the null hypothesis is rejected and alternatif hypothesis is accepted. Its means that there is a significant before and after being thought by using communicative language teaching (CLT) method on students’ speaking skills, it means that it is effective.
