Abstract

Keywords: Storyberries, vocabulary mastery, digital learning, young learners,
interactive storytelling.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Storyberries media in
teaching English vocabulary to young learners, specifically sixth-grade students at
SDI An-Nur Surabaya. The research was motivated by the crucial role of
vocabulary in language proficiency and the growing need for engaging and
contextual learning media to foster motivation and participation among
elementary students.
The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental onegroup pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 33 students selected
through purposive sampling. The instrument used was a vocabulary test divided
into two parts: matching words with pictures and fill-in-the-blank questions. The
test was administered before and after the intervention, which involved using the
digital storytelling platform Storyberries, known for its interactive, illustrated
stories tailored to children. Since the data were not normally distributed, the
analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test.
The results indicated a statistically significant improvement in students'
vocabulary mastery. The mean score increased from 47.88 in the pre-test to 70.00
in the post-test. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z-value of -3.512 with a significance
level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming that the difference between pre- and post-test
scores was statistically significant. A total of 81.8% of participants demonstrated
score improvement, which strongly supports the positive impact of using
Storyberries in vocabulary instruction.
