Abstract

Keyword: Vocabulary Acquisition, Animation Based Media, Powtoon
Vocabulary acquisition can be examined from both breadth and depth.
Students who can provide context-appropriate meanings for the same vocabulary
will have better and more fluent communication skills. At Mambaus Sholihin
Islamic boarding school, the students already possess good English skills. They,
nonetheless, feel that studying with traditional method is boring and uninteresting.
This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design,
where the researcher instrument consist of a pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire.
The population of this study consists of 10th-grade students at MA Mambaus
Sholihin, and the sample is selected using purposive sampling technique. The
sample used in this study is the 10B class, with a total of 50 students, which serves
as the experimental group.
The research findings show that the average post-test score (83.44) is higher
than the pre-test score (80.56). Additionally, the paired sample t-test results indicate
a Sig. value of 0.00 < 0.05. The questionnaire results also reveal that 64% of
students feel that the learning process became more engaging with Powtoon as
animation-based media. Therefore, it can be concluded that Powtoon has a
significant impact on the vocabulary learning process.
